Eventpool delights Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen with Open-Air Festival for IOC Decision: Major Event attracts over 25,000 Winter Olympics Fans to Munich City

Munich/Garmisch-Partenkirchen: On Wednesday, 6th July 2011, the day of the IOC‘s decision on the Winter Olympics 2018, over 25,000 olympic fans took part in a huge open-air festival in Munich‘s city centre. The event was largely conceived and carried out by Eventpool 2018, an association of eight leading names from the Bavarian event industry, and an official „Friend of the Bid“. Initiator and official organiser of the festival was the Olympic Bid Committee Munich 2018.

Over 40 staff from Eventpool companies were involved in ensuring the perfect running of the events in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Alongside stages, public viewing, star guests, VIP lounges and top-class entertainment, the Eventpool team was also responsible for coordination with the Bavarian state TV company, Bayerische Rundfunk, which broadcast live throughout the day from Marienplatz in Munich, from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and from Königssee.

Within Eventpool, each agency took on different tasks: ten&one Eventagentur GmbH was responsible for the entire stage area, artist management and direction on the Marienplatz square in Munich. Trendhouse Eventmarketing GmbH took on construction, disassembly and logistics, including all official permits and authorizations. Both companies acted as lead agencies for the project.

Penta Events took care of the VIP lounge for 800 invited guests in the courtyard of Munich‘s town hall, as well as guest handling, authorization and controlling of the whole project, on the day. Jochen Schweizer Events GmbH supported the project with manpower in construction, disassembly and entrance control, while spiel & sport team GmbH orchestrated a magnificent balloon-flight spectacular, disributing over 3,500 helium balloons in and around Marienplatz. Serviceplan Events GmbH and CTC Christian Timmer Consulting GmbH coordinated the project and acted as the interface with the Olympic Bid Committee.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Eventpool member agency, Alpin Convention, directed the public viewing and entertainment programme on the town‘s central square, Mohrenplatz, including the coordination of Bayerische Rundfunk‘s live coverage, general direction as well as VIP and stage management.

The only thing which Eventpool couldn‘t control last Wednesday was the IOC‘s decision in Durban, South Africa. Although the Winter Olympics 2018 will be held in South Korea and not in Bavaria, the Eventpool team and the festival audiences in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen were able to show one thing: How fans really celebrate winter sports!

Munich 2022, perhaps?
